Episode 22: Kill Bill: Vol. 1 (Region 2)

Kill BillKill BillKill Bill
Finally! We're delving into my personal favorite Tarantino flick. We dug into Jen's specially ordered from Japan region 2 version. Supposedly there's only a minute of difference between Japanese and American version and most of the additional material is near the end -- so there shouldn't be too much of a problem if you watch your region 1 DVD.

Anyway, Kill Bill rocks!

Kill BillAnyone remember the name of the movie I mentioned in the commentary that had this blonde chick wandering around a house with her eyes bleeding? I saw it as a kid. No idea what the name of the movie is.

Excited to see this. I recently bought Kill Bill on Blu-ray after catching part of it again on HDTV and remembering how much fun it was, but I haven't sat down with it. Now I have a reason. I assume you're going to do volume 2 also... right?

I love your commentaries but I wish you would do a little more research (and not IMDB). That would make them perfect.

Here is some clarifying/ interesting info.
It's "Lady Snowblood" (not blood snow) and "Lone Wolf and Cub" (not Lion and cub).

Lady Snowblood is much more referenced in O-Ren's story than the Bride's. It's a pretty cool movie. Both it and Lone wolf are based on Manga by the same author. Also, Shogun Assassin, the movie Bea and BB watch, is the American re-cut/butcher of the first two Lone Wolf movies. The bad guy wasn't the Shogun in the original and the story was very different. It's still cool though.

Sonny Chiba IS in a remake of Seven Samurai directed by Hiroyuki Nakano. He was the director of Samurai Fiction, which was the inspiration for the blue silhouette scene in the HOBL fight. The remake of SS is a Pachinko only movie. You have to play the game to see it. How weird is that???

I can't remember if you mentioned that Hattori Hanzo was supposed to be a decedent of the Hattori Hanzo's in the Chiba TV series, Shadow Warriors. Each season had Chiba as the next generation using the name Hattori Hanzo.

Anyway, I can't wait for Part II.

And one other thing. Recent comments by Tarantino about the "Whole Bloody Affair" cut of the movie seem to indicate that the guy who killed O-Ren's dad wasn't Bill. He said they are adding to the anime where she gets revenge on the guy. It may still be him and Tarantino is just keeping it down low.
